Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary and Wildlife Sanctuary in Periyar
Set in
the serene environs of Kerala, which is famous for its quite beaches, lush
countryside and tranquil
backwaters, is the wildlife sanctuary in Periyar. The
Tiger Reserve is famous for its large population of the great Indian Elephants
which are a major attraction for tourists. The park also has a picturesque lake
in its middle, which provides a source of water for the wild animals. The Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary situated amidst picturesque environs is like a
kaleidoscope providing different shades of wildlife to the tourists. The best
time to visit the park is from October to June. The widlife sanctuary in

You will be very lucky to spot a tiger in the park as there
are only about 40 tigers left here. Others animals which can be seen here
include gaur, wild pigs, sambar, barking deer, mouse deer and Indian wild dog.
The rare lion-tailed macaque, the Nilgiri langur, common langur and bonnet
macaque can also be seen frolocking around the branches of trees. There
are lots of fantastic Periyar Wildlife attractions available. The
sanctuary is also home to many bird species including darters, cormorants,
kingfishers, the great Malabar hornbill and racket-tailed drongoes. Some rare
species of reptiles including python and king cobra can also be seen.

km from Periyar is the nearest railway station.
» By Road :
Kumily is the nearest town from Periyar tours which has good road connections with
major towns including Kottayam, Ernakulam and Madurai in Tamil
