Bandhavgarh National Park, situated in the Indian state of Madhya
Pradesh, is famous for its population of tigers and one of the famous tiger park in India as well the largest in India
including the rare White Tiger. Before being given the status of a national tiger park
in India in the year 1968, Bandhavgarh was a hunting reserve for the Maharajahs of Rewa. The best
time to visit this Tiger park in India is during the winter months from December to February
while the best months to spot wild animals are April and May when due to intense
heat, the animals gather around whatever little water is left in the water
bodies. The park remains closed from June till November.
Wildlife Attractions
Bandhavgarh National park is blessed with a large
variety of inhabitants, both birds and animals. Some of the animals that can be
seen inside the park include tigers, leopards, gaur (Indian Bison),
chital(spotted deer), sambar deer, dholes, nilgais, wild boars, sloth bears,
rhesus macaques, black faced langurs, jungle cats, hyenas, porcupines, jackals,
foxes, wild dogs, chausinghas and ratels among others.
The bird
population in the park consists of some of the most beautiful birds that can be
seen flying freely around the park. Some of the birds that can be commonly
sighted here include white browed fantails, steppe eagles, green pigeons, grey
malabar hornbills, black and white malabar hornbills, blossom headed parakeets,
parakeets, blue bearded bee eaters, green bee eaters, white bellied drongos,
owls, Jerdon's and gold fronted leaf birds, minivets and
woodshrikes.

Fort :
The awesome Bandhavgarh Fort, situated at an altitude of about 800
m, is spread over an area of 560 acres. There are two ways leading to the fort,
the rocky jeep track and the footpath which is preffered by most of the
visitors. With a number of beautiful temples and lakes situated inside the fort,
it is a must visit site for all.

entrance and accommodation is available at Tala on the Umaria-Rewa highway.

It is advisable to get stocked with all the necessities at Umaria.
» Clothes
should be carried along according to season, light cotton clothes in summers and
woollen in winters.
» The park timings vary according to season and generally
are from 6.30 AM to 10.30 AM and 2.30 PM to 5.30 PM.
» Carrying of firearms,
trekking, littering, smoking and disturbing the animals is strictly
prohibited.
» Taking a guide along with you inside the park is
compulsory.
Getting There
» By Air : The nearest
airport is located at Jabalpur, 165 km from Bandhavgarh. Another airport is
situated at Khajuraho (230 km). Helicopter service is available from Nagpur to
Bandhavgarh (US$ 200/ passenger).
» By Rail : The nearest
railway station is at Umaria, about 32 km from the park. Delhi is connected to
Umaria with a direct train, the Utkal Express. Buses and jeeps are easily
available from here to reach the park.
» By Road : The
Bandhavgarh National Park is situated on the Umaria-Rewa highway about 30 km
from Umaria. State transport buses are easily available to reach Bandhavgarh
from Rewa, Satna, Katni and Umaria.
